Fire Sprinkler System

Fire Sprinkler Systems are an important component of Fire Safety System planning. Often times the first line of defence against fires, they help with containment of fires and help with the evacuation process by giving people time to react. They also minimize the risk faced by firefighters as the firefighters can focus on rescuing trapped personnel’s.

How does a Fire Sprinkler System work?

Fire Sprinkler Systems (or Fire Suppression Systems) uses water or other flame retardants to suppress fires in buildings by spraying them over a wide area. The Sprinkler System is usually connected to a network of pipelines that provide a supply of water or other fire retardants at high pressure being pumped by a Fire Pump Set. Their working principle depends upon the type of fire retardant they release which reduces the heat and displaces air that suffocates the fire. They are usually activated by Heat. Contrary to popular belief, fire alarm systems are not triggered by smoke. This manual activation prevents failure of the system even when the electrical systems have been knocked out.

At Stevok we can design sprinkler systems based on your needs such as different spray patterns, time of response, pressure droplet size etc.

What Are The Types Of Fire Sprinkler Systems?

Fire extinguishers are versatile fire safety products that contain varying substances suited to different types of fire. There are over 42 different types of fire extinguishers, the most common of which include; water, CO2, foam, dry powder and wet chemical extinguishers. All of the extinguishers supplied by Churches Fire meet British Standards – BS5306-3:2009 & BS5306-8:2012.

The Wet Fire Sprinkler System uses water to extinguish fires and the sprinkler head is activated by heat. Due to this there is no delay as the system reacts quick.

The Dry Fire Sprinkler Systems use pressurised air or nitrogen gas while the water is held back by a control valve. When the sprinkler head is activated, the gas is released and the valve is opened allowing the water to flow out through the sprinkler head. This system  is used in colder regions where the water could freeze if kept in the pipes.

A deluge fire sprinkler system is similar to a wet pipe fire sprinkler system as it uses water, the difference being that the sprinkler heads are always open and are not activated by heat. Instead, this system is connected and activated by a fire alarm system. When the alarm system is activated and the valve releases the water, the valve needs to be manually turned off.

Pre-action Fire Sprinkler Systems are filled with air and water. The water is only allowed to pass through when a detector (Smoke Detector etc) goes off. This type of Sprinkler System is useful as activation due to false alarms or mechanical failure can be prevented.
