Emergency Exit Lighting System supply and installation

An Emergency Lighting System comes into play during an emergency situation such as a fire outbreak or when the main power supply gets cut leading to the failure of the normal lighting systems. During this event, the sudden darkness could instil panic amongst the people in the building leading to hazardous incidents. Therefore it is extremely crucial that all buildings must have Emergency Lighting exit systems installed.

As a stand-alone backup system, the Emergency Exit Lighting System works independently of the building’s electrical distribution system functions as a guide for people in the safe evacuation of the premises.

When / Where does one need Emergency Exit Lighting systems?

  • Escape Route Lighting – This lighting system allows for swift evacuation as it illuminates the escape routes in a building.
  • Public Buildings- large Public buildings such as shopping malls, airports, museums etc. that get to see a lot of visitors require Emergency Exit lighting as most visitors would not be aware of escape routes resulting in mass panic during an emergency
  • Process Facilities- Process facilities which usually undertake high-risk tasks with a possibility of potential danger must have Emergency Lighting Systems installed in order to aid in evacuation during the event of an accident or incident.

Types of Emergency Exit Lighting Systems

This type of light runs continuously and is connected to the buildings lighting system. During a power outage will operate at a lower light output level.

A Non-Maintained Light is fitted with its own rechargeable battery. This light is connected to the main electrical lines of the building for charging.

A Central Battery System comprises of Exit Lights that are connected to a central rechargeable battery system.

A Sustained Emergency Lighting uses a separate lamp other than the main lamp to provide light during an emergency. This reduces the possibility of a failure of the system as the sustained lamp is only activated during an emergency.
